French toast used to be one of the breakfast options on a weekday, back in those days, when I used to work. Quick to make, delicious and filling they used to be and made me proud of myself for having made breakfast even though I was rushing for work. After I quit my job, having plenty of time in hand we switched on to more of a wholesome Indian breakfast options. But still, once in a while when the laziness hits me, I would go back to simpler stuff to make in the morning, one of the options being french toast.

Remember, Challah bread that I had posted few weeks back? The day after I made it, I tried french toast with those and they were so good. It was after some time that we were having french toast for breakfast and moreover the ease/convenience of making it is what I love about them the most :).

So here is a simple, quick and easy, yet delicious recipe for french toast.

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cup of milk
  2. 2 large eggs
  3. 1/4 tsp of cinnamon powder
  4. 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract
  5. 6-8 slices of bread
  6. 2 tsp of sugar
  7. Butter to spread on the pan
  8. Powdered sugar as desired
  9. Cut fresh fruits and whipped cream as desired
Method
  • In a bowl, take the milk and add in the eggs, cinnamon powder, vanilla extract and sugar. Beat it well with a fork.
  • Heat a pan and spread some butter on it. Dip a slice of bread in the egg mixture to form a coating of it on all its sides and place it in the pan. Cook it on medium high heat.
  • Flip the bread slice and let the other side cook.
  • Remove it from the heat. Repeat the same for remaining slices of bread.
  • Once done, stack them and dust it with some powdered sugar and top it with some fresh fruits or whipped cream and serve it along with a hot cup of coffee. You are sure to feel content and kick start your day with full energy.
Tips
  1. Do not over soak the bread in the mixture, else they will remain all soggy in the inside even if they appear to be done from outside.
  2. You could avoid cinnamon if you want. I personally feel it enriches the taste of the french toast and they smell heavenly too.
